A Call to Worship
Pentecost 20C [Ordinary 28C] or [Proper 23C] 2010
Psalm 66: 1-12

We gather to worship God with songs of joy,
to praise God’s holy name. We sing: ‘Praise to God!’
And the whole world responds: ‘Praise to God!’

We gather to joyful celebrate our awesome God.
How wonderful and mysterious are God’s powers.
And every creature responds: ‘Glory to God!’

We gather to honour and revere our God who
individually and communally loves and nurtures us.
And all humanity responds: ‘Great is God’s love.’ Amen.

Prayers of Thankfulness and Praise
Pentecost 20C [Ordinary 28C] or [Proper 23C] 2010
Psalm 66: 1-12

Creating God, we gather to call on your holy name, to sing
and shout aloud our thanks and praise for your mighty acts
of mercy and grace! We gather to share with the created world
our joyful praises, and to celebrate God’s holy presence!
How awesome are your deeds, God of all creation.

Generous God, we gather to invite creation in all its diversity
to join with us in praise of our God! All creatures great and
small; all forms of life; and every particle of matter are invited
to join the chorus of thankfulness to God, the Lord of all things.
Come in worship to explore for yourself the mysteries of our God.

God of Wisdom, we gather to remember how, through many
generations, God’s power has guided God’s people through their
journey home to their eternal God. Through generous and
merciful actions, God has led us onwards, and we rejoice
in these special revelations of God’s mercy and compassion.

Challenging God, we remember too, the testing times we have
experienced and how we have been strengthened through these
struggles. Now, we can rejoice in the saving actions of our God.
Our lives are in God’s hands and through this, we are blessed.

God of the Ages, we gather to celebrate your rule over all creation;
your rule over all peoples; and over all the events in history.
How awesome are your powers, and how blessed are we to be
able to share in praising God - and in our diversity - to sing the songs
of God in freedom, in acceptance of our differences, and in peace.
Rejoice, glorify and praise God with loud and joyous voices. Amen.

A Personal Meditation
Pentecost 20C [Ordinary 28C] or [Proper 23C] 2010
Psalm 66: 1-12

My songs of praise and thankfulness rise with the morning sun,
and my prayers and blessings shimmer in the evening twilight,
as I praise my gracious and wonderful God. I humbly invite all creation
to join me in my songs and prayers of thanksgiving to God.

Creative pause: Join with me to praise and give glory to God.

I am in awe of the works of God! I am amazed at the wonders of
God’s actions amongst and for humanity, and in the diversity of
God’s creative powers. All creation falls down in humility before
such majesty and glory. Even the ungodly give grudging recognition
of God’s actions across the nations and amongst the peoples of
the earth, as evil forces are and silenced before God - the holy One.

Creative pause: All creation joyfully worships God.

I know what it is like to be tested and tried in the fires of life.
I, too have experienced the struggles and pains of being pummelled
and pushed along on the conveyer belt of life, only to emerge
at the end of that journey - stronger and well polished by God’s care.
Join with me in experiencing for yourself what God has done for
countless generations, and discover for yourself how God has blessed
and guided people on their journey of life - with all its uncertainties.

Creative pause: Testing times bring many blessings.

My Lord, my life rests in the shelter of your hands; you also keep
my feet from stumbling, and you support me in times of trouble.
I am so blessed by my God, who had brought me safely thus far;
and I confidently journey on in life until I reach my home in God.

Creative pause: I will praise my God with my life resting in God’s hands.
